Labyrinth of Lights, 2011, C-print

The complex and intricate labyrinth of light encapsulates human existence; highlighting our ever-conflicting power battle with the natural world and the problems that today’s society has encountered because of the utopian decisions of previous generations, which were imagined to perfect society. The balance between the metropolis and its reflection conveys the perils of the fragility and vulnerability of our very existence. The electronic colours used are only found in the city, in the form of graffiti, neon lights and signs. They add to the psychedelic illusion of the invented place. The image is only visible for the camera, toying with reality itself. This was once a real place, however like a lost civilisation from antiquity, it is now merely a document of what once was. The sphere creates a window to a place, which does not exist, in any tangible form in the physical world.
